Key takeaways
- Trait severity (0–10): how disruptive the behaviour is when it actually triggers. A mean trait that only fires during conversation scores low; an autonomous action that happens while your Sim is asleep scores high.
- Story impact (0–10): how far the fallout spreads. Flirting with your Sim’s partner affects one relationship bar; breaking into a house at night affects moodlets, sleep, and whatever you had planned for the next in-game day.
- Community sentiment (0–10): how consistently the name appears in “most hated townie” discussions on the official Sims forums, the Sims subreddits and Sims video comment sections. This measures reputation, not behaviour.
The most hated townie in The Sims 4 is Vladislaus Straud, the Grand Master vampire from Forgotten Hollow who lets himself into your house at night, feeds on your sleeping Sims and hisses at anyone who wakes up. Don Lothario and Malcolm Landgraab take second and third. Those three names surface more often than any others in community “most annoying townie” threads, and the ranking below scores each entry on trait severity, story impact and community sentiment so you can see exactly why each one lands where it does.
One caveat before the list: EA has never published an official ranking of disliked townies, and the game’s own patch notes treat pre-made characters as neutral story furniture. This is a community-driven list with editorial scores, not an official chart — treat the numbers as a transparent rubric rather than poll results.
How the ranking was scored
Every townie is scored on three things out of 10, then added up to a composite out of 30. Splitting the score matters, because the townie players complain about loudest isn’t always the one that ruins the most saves.

The key insight from scoring this way: being mean is not enough. Plenty of Sims 4 townies are rude, snobbish or dramatic, and nobody minds, because those traits only fire when your Sim chooses to interact with them. What makes a townie genuinely hated is autonomy plus proximity — the character acts on their own, and the game keeps putting them near you. Vlad scores 28 because he does both. Erwin Pries scores 14 because he does neither; he mostly talks to himself in StrangerVille.

1. Vladislaus Straud — 28.0/30
Vlad lives in the Straud Mansion in Forgotten Hollow, the small world that ships with the Vampires Game Pack (game packs generally sit in the $20 market range; the Sims 4 base game itself is free to play). Per the pack’s description of vampire behaviour, vampires can enter a home at night and drink from a sleeping Sim — and Vlad is the one most players meet first, because Forgotten Hollow is tiny and he holds the top rank on the in-game vampire ladder, Grand Master.
Nothing else on this list interrupts a save as hard. You lose the night’s sleep, your Sim picks up a miserable moodlet, and whatever you had queued for the next morning gets rewritten. The trade-off is that a large slice of the community likes him precisely for this — he’s the reason to buy the pack for some players. If you’d rather he stayed outside, hang garlic braids on doors and windows (Vampires pack) or set the Private Dwelling lot trait, which the game describes as discouraging uninvited visitors.
2. Don Lothario — 26.5/30
Don shares the Caliente household in Oasis Springs, which means he’s base-game content and completely free to encounter. His entire design is romance: leave him in a room with a married Sim and autonomy does the rest. That’s why his story impact score is as high as Vlad’s despite the lower severity — a single unattended afternoon can hand you a flirting notification you never asked for, and repairing a relationship bar takes far longer than the flirt that damaged it.
The fix is unglamorous: use Send Home the moment he appears, keep your flirty Sims busy with tasks, and don’t park a partner in the same room as him while you’re managing another household member. The trade-off is real, though — if you want a legacy save with actual drama, Don is a free engine for it.
3. Malcolm Landgraab — 23.5/30
Malcolm is the teenage heir of the Landgraab family in Affluista Mansion, Oasis Springs, and he’s base-game content. Players dislike him because he’s rude without provocation, and because he’s a teen, the usual social repair tools feel clumsier against him. His story impact score is lower than Don’s simply because he rarely leaves Oasis Springs unless you invite him somewhere.
Fix: don’t invite him. If your household is already in his social circle, keep interactions short and avoid group events where he can wander. The trade-off is that reforming Malcolm is a popular challenge run — he’s one of the few townies with enough backstory to make a redemption arc interesting.
4. Judith Ward — 23.0/30
Judith is a five-star celebrity who lives in Del Sol Valley in the Get Famous Expansion Pack (expansions generally run around the $40 market range). Fame in that pack runs on a five-star ladder, and Judith sits at the top, which means wherever she goes, paparazzi and fans follow. When she turns up on a community lot your Sim is using, the resulting crowd slows the scene down and triggers fame reactions your Sim never opted into.
Fix: don’t build in Del Sol Valley if you don’t want celebrity traffic, and use the Private Dwelling lot trait on residential lots. The trade-off: she’s a genuinely useful contact if your Sim is chasing fame, since proximity to a five-star celebrity speeds up recognition.
5. Summer Holiday — 21.0/30
Summer is one of the three Sims in the BFF household in Willow Creek, and she’s base-game. She isn’t mean — she’s relentless. She’s a frequent face in the Welcome Wagon visit, and players who leave a new household running for a few in-game days often find she has befriended, moved in with, or married half the family without being asked. Her severity score is modest; her story impact is high because the consequences stick.
Fix: Private Dwelling, or lock the front door to everyone outside the household. The trade-off is that she’s one of the best free roommates in the base game if you want help paying bills.
6. Nancy Landgraab — 20.5/30
Nancy, also in Oasis Springs and base-game, is the snob everyone meets early. She scores lower than her son because her behaviour is mostly reactive — she’s unpleasant in conversation, not disruptive to your schedule. Her sentiment score stays high because she’s the townie players most often describe as the one they deliberately avoid at neighbourhood events.
Fix: nothing mechanical is required. Skip her at parties, and don’t take her criticism personally when your Sim gets a negative moodlet from a chat.
7–12: the rest of the list
- Paolo Rocca (20.0): Partihaus, Windenburg, Get Together. Same flirt problem as Don, slightly lower sentiment because Windenburg is optional content.
- Agnes Crumplebottom (19.5): Henford-on-Bagley, Cottage Living. She physically
