Meta has chosen Robert Fergus to guide its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) lab, based on Bloomberg.
Fergus had been working at Google DeepMind as a analysis director for roughly 5 years, per his LinkedIn. Prior to Google, he labored as a researcher scientist at Meta.
Meta’s FAIR, which has been round since 2013, has confronted challenges lately, based on a report from Fortune. FAIR led analysis on the corporate’s early AI fashions, together with Llama 1 and Llama 2. However, researchers have reportedly departed the unit en masse for different startups, corporations, and even Meta’s newer GenAI group, which led the event of Llama 4.
Meta’s earlier VP of AI Research, Joelle Pineau, introduced in April she’d be leaving the corporate for a brand new alternative.
