    Meta’s antitrust trial slide redactions aren’t really hiding something


    Thanks to the poor redactions, we are able to see sections evaluating using Apple’s Messages app to Meta apps like Instagram and WhatsApp. The unique slide displayed solely a quote from Apple director of product advertising and marketing Ronak Shah describing an iMessage “core use case” allegedly just like Facebook’s. Another, labeled “Snapchat in 2020: Competitors Are Succeeding and Not Just Meta Apps,” says that “Tiktok, Insta, FB, Messengers and YouTube” are “thriving.”

    Those aren’t particularly juicy particulars; at most, it seems like somebody was simply being cautious — or making an attempt to be, anyway — with slides that got here from different corporations’ inner conferences. But the leak calls to thoughts mid-2023, when Sony spilled PlayStation secrets and techniques by utilizing sharpie to cover info — which let the darker printed ink under be seen below, say, the intense gentle of a doc scanner — in courtroom paperwork shared within the Microsoft antitrust trial.
