Google scrubs mentions of ‘range’ and ‘fairness’ from accountable AI workforce webpage

Google has quietly up to date the webpage for its Responsible AI and Human Centered Technology (RAI-HCT) workforce, the workforce charged with conducting analysis into AI security, equity, and explainability, to wash mentions of “range” and “fairness.”

A earlier model of the web page used language similar to “marginalized communities,” “numerous,” “underrepresented teams,” and “fairness” to explain the RAI-HCT workforce’s work. That language has been eliminated, or in some instances changed with much less particular wording (e.g. “all,” “different,” and “quite a few” moderately than “numerous”)

Google didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

The adjustments, which had been noticed by watchdog group The Midas Project, come after Google deleted related language from its Startups Founders Fund grant web site. The firm stated in early February that it will get rid of its range hiring targets and evaluation its range, fairness, and inclusion (DEI) applications.

Google is among the many many large tech firms which have rolled again DEI initiatives because the Trump Administration targets what it characterizes as an “unlawful” apply. Amazon and Meta have walked again DEI measures over the previous few months, and OpenAI lately eliminated mentions of range and inclusion from a webpage on its hiring practices. Apple, nevertheless, lately pushed again towards a shareholder proposal to finish its DEI applications.

Many of those firms, together with Google, have contracts with federal companies.
