Honda Motor Co. will cease funding a three way partnership with General Motors and Cruise to launch a robotaxi service in Japan, now that GM has pulled the plug on Cruise and its industrial robotaxi ambitions, experiences The Nikkei.
GM mentioned Tuesday it might stop funding Cruise and as an alternative take in the corporate and mix it with its personal efforts to develop private autonomous automobiles.
While GM owns 90% of Cruise, Honda holds a small minority stake alongside different buyers like T. Rowe Price and Microsoft. GM mentioned it plans to purchase again shares from minority stakeholders and improve its possession stake to greater than 97%.
Honda, Cruise, and GM introduced plans in October 2023 to launch a robotaxi service in Tokyo collectively in 2026 utilizing Cruise’s purpose-built robotaxis, referred to as The Origin.
